Rohit Sharma

After winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma will have his eyes on the 2025 Champions Trophy and the India captain would be eager to win his first ODI ICC trophy, Rohit-led India made it to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup but lost to Australia in the final. The BCCI has already confirmed that Rohit will be leading the Men in Blue in the Champions Trophy. This will be the first ICC tourmament for Rohit Sharma and head coach, Gautam Gambhir together. They were teammates at the 2007 T20 World Cup, that India won. Rohit, Virat Kohli and few other seniors haven’t played an ODI since the 2023 WC final and they are likely to make their retum in the series against England. As the fans wait for the seniors retum to the ODI format, here we have a look at India’s predicted squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy – Openers Rohit Sharma looks all but set to open the innings with Shubman Gill. Shubman has cemented his spot in Tests and ODIs and there is no doubt that he will face the new ball with the India captain. The right- handed batsman is leading the team in the T201 series against Zimbabwe but still isn’t a regular in the shortest format. Middle-order Virat Kohli changed his Batting position in T201s and opened the innings with Rohit in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He has opened the innings in ODIs too but will not change his position in this format. The former India captain will continue to bat at number 3. Shreyas Iyer has been India’s best number 4 batsman in the past few years and he is likely to retain his spot. He is expected to make his return for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Rinku Singh will be one of the contenders to be part of the squad. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are likely to be two wicketkeepers in the team. Rahul is ahead of Rishabh in the pecking order and the latter could be benched in ODIs. All-rounders There is no doubt over Hardik Pandya’s place and he will continue to be India’s pace-bowling all-rounder. Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are two other all-rounders who should be part of the team. Jadeja retired from T201s after the T20 WC final. Bowlers Jasprit Bumrah will lead India’s pace attack in the Champions Trophy. Mohammed Shamii is India’s big match player and always delivers in ICC events. If fit, the right-arm pacer will share the duties with Bumrah. Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna are expected to be the other pacers. Arshdeep is way ahead of other pacers. Prasidh isn’t a guaranteed selection and will face competition from others. India’s predicted squad for 2025 Champions Trophy: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh
