A multiplex official told Bollywood Hungama, “On the morning of Monday, June 24, we got the information that the makers and distributor of Kalki 2898 AD have asked exhibitors to keep the IMAX bookings on hold. Accordingly, we stopped the sales immediately. In the case of IMAX screens that had not started the booking, they were told not to commence ticket sales.”

Another source said, “Some multiplexes also got a directive that Kalki 2898 AD will not release in the IMAX version, giving speculation that the IMAX release is cancelled. It’s been more than six hours and we hope the makers give clarity on this aspect as there’s a demand for this film’s IMAX version. The audience needs to know what’s happening.”

Kalki 2898 AD stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani. It is directed by Nag Ashwin and backed by C Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies. The advance booking opened yesterday and has received an encouraging response. The futuristic entertainer will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

The makers have gone all out for promotions. Last month, in a first ever instance, they released an animated prelude, B&B: Bujji And Bhairava, on Amazon Prime Video. The thirty-minute series helped viewers understand the world of Kalki 2898 AD.

Last week, a grand event of Kalki 2898 AD was held in Mumbai and was graced by Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. A few days ago, Bollywood Hungama was the first to report that with a run time of 180 minutes, Kalki 2898 AD is the longest Prabhas film ever.
