Anurag Kashyap says India doesn't need masked superheroes like Iron Man, we have Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan: ‘We have low self esteem…’

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who is known for making cult films like Black Friday and Gangs Of Wasseypur, talks about the thought process of Indian fans and says that while Hollywood relies on masked superheroes like Iron Man, we have Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.

“We are a country of hero worshippers. We are deprived of many things and have low self-esteem and confidence. We need heroes. Why do our films have larger-than-life heroes? We are the only country where actors won’t cover their faces while playing superheroes. The masks would be so small because it is important to show their faces,” said Kashyap while talking to Human of Cinema.

He added, “We don’t need Iron Man and Hulk. We have Sunny Deol—what is Hulk in front of him? This is in all of us; we need heroes to feel better about ourselves. We fantasise about this. An average Indian dreams about doing something heroic.”

On the professional front, Anurag Kashyap will be next seen in Bad Cop, which will stream on Disney+ Hotstar. Talking about his character, the multi-talented personality said, “I have created a lot of characters that are gore, quirky, dark and many more things but believe it or not it was difficult for me to be one. Kazbe is someone who doesn’t think too much before doing anything, he just does it. He is a dreadful, eccentric, nefarious and a quintessential villain. I had to bite into the intricacies of this character and make it my own. Being directed by Aditya Datt was a great experience and collaborating with partners like Disney+ Hotstar and Fremantle India was incredible.”

It also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Harleen Sethi, Saurabh Sachdeva, and Aishwarya Sushmita in prominent roles.
