Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s love for their 20-year-old home Mannat is well-known to fans. “Even if I was broke one day, I would sell everything, but not Mannat,” the veteran Bollywood actor once said. Located in Mumbai’s Bandra neighbourhood, the six-storey mansion has been thoughtfully designed by Gauri with the help of architect-designer Kaif Faquih, and is one of the most iconic Bollywood homes out there. The Khans’ multi-level bungalow—valued at approximately Rs 200 crore—comes with a rich history, art collectibles, family memorabilia and luxurious amenities. Below, we take you through five lesser-known facts you ought to know about Mannat.

Before he moved into his now-home, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan lived in a 3BHK sea-facing apartment in Bandra. When he spotted the beautiful property while shooting for his 1997 film Yes Boss, he immediately had his heart set on it and eventually bought it from its owner, Nariman Dubash, in 2001.
2. The star couple’s home went through three name changes
Originally a legacy house belonging to gallerist Kekoo Gandhy, the house was called Villa Vienna under its previous owners. When Khan acquired it, he changed the name to Jannat, meaning ‘heaven’. However, when his new home proved to be lucky for his career, he renamed it again to ‘Mannat’, meaning ‘prayer’.
3. Did you know that Mannat is officially recognised as a heritage property?

Mannat is a 1920s-era, Grade III heritage structure. According to INTACH, this status is assigned to “buildings of local importance, possessing special architectural or historical value.” Though its interiors have been revamped to personify contemporary luxury, the exterior facade contains neoclassical elements such as its iconic white columns.

It’s safe to say that this is one of the most luxurious celebrity homes in India.
