Amitabh Bachchan’s Unfinished Promise: The Aishwarya Rai College

Amitabh Bachchan, a legendary name in Bollywood, is not only known for his acting prowess but also for his humanitarian efforts. However, amidst the recent rumors of Abhishek and Aishwarya’s divorce, a surprising aspect of Amitabh’s past has come to light, leaving many in shock.

Back in 2008, shortly after Abhishek and Aishwarya’s wedding, Amitabh Bachchan announced his intention to build a college in honor of his daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. This announcement was made during a visit to a village in Uttar Pradesh, where Amitabh, along with his wife Jaya Bachchan and the newlyweds, laid the foundation stone for what was to be named “Aishwarya Bachchan Girls’ Intercollege.” The event was significant, attended by political figures like Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh from the Samajwadi Party.

The contract for the construction of the college was awarded to the Nitisha Foundation, with Jaya Bachchan serving as its president. An initial token amount of ₹5 lakhs was given to commence the project. However, for reasons unknown, the construction of the college never progressed beyond the foundation stage. Over time, the villagers became increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress, especially as the project remained incomplete for years.

The delay in construction led to Amitabh Bachchan’s charitable organization being blamed for the stalled project. Despite promises, the college was never built, leaving the villagers disappointed. In an effort to see the college completed, a local villager, who was the father of a teacher, donated over 10,000 square meters of land for the project. This land was close to the original plot where the Bachchan College was supposed to be built.

The villagers even raised the necessary funds themselves to complete the project, showing their determination and hope. However, despite their efforts, the original project initiated by Amitabh Bachchan remains unfinished to this day, with no clear explanation as to why the work was halted midway.

This unfulfilled promise has left many people wondering what might have gone wrong, and why such a significant project, announced with much fanfare, was never completed. The villagers, who had hoped for better educational opportunities for their daughters, are still waiting for answers.
