Before breaking into Hollywood movies, Priyanka Chopra undertook a music career after signing with Interscope Records. The Baywatch actress collaborated with some big names in pop music, with her first single being In My City, which featured rapper will.i.am. She followed it up with more singles: Erase with The Chainsmokers, Exotic featuring Pitbull, and Young and Free with Australian DJ Will Sparks.

Recently, during a podcast appearance with Raj Shamani, The Chainsmokers – who are known internationally for chart topping songs like Closer featuring Halsey, Don’t Let Me Down featuring Daya, Roses featuring Rozes, Paris, and Something Just Like This featuring Coldplay, to name a few – spoke about their collaboration with Priyanka Chopra for the song Erase.

Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers said that Erase was technically their ‘first song.’ He recalled that he was interning at Interscope Records when he received the opportunity to remix a few of their songs. This transpired around the same time when Priyanka Chopra signed with the music label.

He said, “They had me remixing songs of her and songs of other Interscope artists, which was a huge opportunity for me. I remember I got some vocals from the Erase song and they were, like, the production is not right, can you make a new production? So I made that production and everyone liked it.”

Amidst all this, Andrew Taggart, the other half of The Chainsmokers, joined Alex Pall and formed the duo. Since they already had Erase, they decided to make it their first song. But, until then, they had never met Priyanka Chopra. In fact, the three first met her at a restaurant in Los Angeles eight years later!

Alex Pall continued, “We met at a restaurant in LA. She was there and, you know, she’s such a nice, amazing person. She looks like a star. She has this aura around her, so it was, like, nerve wracking. We said, ‘Hey, I don’t even know if you know this, but we had a song together.’ And she was like, ‘Oh my god, I have been hoping to run into you guys, meet you at some point.’ It was super sweet and it was kind of funny. Eight years later, that’s the music business for you.”

The Chainsmokers were recently in India to perform in Mumbai.
