After Amitabh Bachchan was announced as the Best Actor at the 22nd Screen Awards in 2016, Rekha ran towards Jaya Bachchan and hugged her. The video of this moment is now going viral on social media.
After Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan tied the knot with each other in 1973, there were strong rumours of an affair between Amitabh and Rekha in thelate 70s and early 80s. However, these rumours were never confirmed as neither of the two actors have talked about their relationship in the past few decades.
After the 1981 film Silsila starring Amitabh, Jaya, and Rekha, it almost seemed impossible that Rekha and Jaya would share the same frame. However, this actually happened at the 22nd Screen Awards held in January, 2016. The awards honoured the best films and best performances of the Hindi movies released in 2015.
When filmmaker Subhash Ghai and actress Sonali Bendre announced Amitabh Bachchan as the Best Actor winner for his brilliant performance as Bhashkor Banerjee in Shoojit Sircar’s emotional drama Piku, he went to the stage to collect his trophy. At the same time, Jaya Bachchan got up to cheer for him and Rekha, who was seated at a close distance, immediately ran towards Jaya and hugged her. The two ladies then watched together as Amitabh gave his winning speech after receiving his award. Now, a video capturing this moment between the two ladies is going viral on social media.
In the video, it can also be seen that Amitabh Bachchan was not the sole winner of the Best Actor award at the Screen Awards 2016. Along with him, Ranveer Singh was also announced as the Best Actor for his sensational performance as Bajirao I in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period epic romantic drama Bajirao Mastani.
