There was a time when the rumours were rife of superstar, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s link-up. Check out to know how Amitabh Bachchan’s wife, Jaya Bachchan had reacted to the same!

When Jaya Bachchan Had Reacted To Her Husband, Amitabh Bachchan And Rekha's Link-Up Rumours

Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan was once rumoured to be madly in love with the veteran actress, Rekha, despite being married to Jaya Bachchan. It was in the late ’70s when media mills were abuzz with Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s love affair. However, not many know what Jaya Bachchan was going through during that time. Recently, we stumbled upon a throwback interview of Amitabh Bachchan’s wife, Jaya Bachchan, wherein she had bared her heart out on her husband’s linkup rumours.

It may look like a tale of yestertimes, but the pain and the love of it, is still, afresh in the minds of many. Rekha and Amitabh’s linkup wasn’t like any other rumour story, which was churned by media mills out of boredom. While no one knows the whole truth, the rumours had created a lot of commotion in the Bachchan family, especially in the ‘happily ever after’ of Jaya Bachchan. So much so that, Jaya had banned Amitabh Bachchan from working with Rekha.

There are times when link-up rumours become the prime reason for a marriage to fall apart, but Jaya had kept her calm during those tough times. In an interview with People’s Magazine, Jaya had bared her heart out on her husband’s link-up rumours. She had shared, “If there was any, he would have been somewhere else, na? People liked them as a couple on-screen, and that’s fine. The media tried linking him with every one of his heroines. My life would have been hell if I had taken it all seriously. We are made of sterner stuff.”

Amitabh and Rekha’s link-up rumours didn’t stopped after Jaya ji‘s interview. We remember how on Simi Garewal’s show, Rekha had accepted her love for him. When Simi Garewal had asked her, “Did Rekha love Amitabh?” To this, Rekha had said, “Absolutely! Duh, that’s a dumb question!” And then she went on to generalise that statement, “I’m yet to come across a man, woman, child, who can’t help but fall completely, passionately, insanely, desperately and especially, hopelessly, in love with him. So why should I be singled out?”

In an interview with Stardust magazine, Rekha had shared an anecdote from her life. She had said, “At an award function some time ago, I’d recited a few lines. Everyone imagined they were meant for him, but actually, it was for Jaya.” She had recited the same lines and had said, “I looked at you, you turned your face away. Why? You feel you are badly off, but can’t you see my position is worse? There is deep hurt in your gaze, but can’t you see that the wounds in my heart are deeper than your look?”
