Not Gautam Gambhir, this member of coaching staff to oversee Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli's first net session in Sri Lanka ahead of ODI series

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has reached Colombo for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Apart from the Indian skipper the ODI-bound players also checked in to their hotels for the upcoming series against the Island nation. Team India will play three ODIs against Sri Lanka which is scheduled to start from August 02.

As per the report from Cricbuzz, India captain along with the players selected exclusively for the ODIs against Sri Lanka checked into the ITC Ratnadipa hotel on Sunday night. The report further said that Indian team management has deputed Abhishek Nayar, one of the assistant coaches under head coach Gautam Gambhir, to oversee the session in Colombo. Nayar left for Colombo on Monday morning after the second T20I on Sunday night.

Team India will host a net session on Monday. As Gautam Gambhir is currently busy with the Suryakumar Yadav-led T20I team Nayar will take care of net sessions in Colombo. However, team India have already defeated Sri Lanka in the T20I series by 2-0 and the third and final T20I will take place on July 30.

The ODIs against Sri Lanka will also mark the return of Shreyas Iyer into the national side. It was in late 2023 that Iyer last played a limited-overs match for India, against South Africa in December.

The squad also features Delhi all-rounder Rana, who was a member of the IPL-winning Kolkata Knight Riders’ team earlier this year.
