Shah Rukh Khan has been working in the entertainment industry for over 30 years now and many of his colleagues and peers often speak about his kind-hearted nature. In a recent interview, veteran journalist Roshmila Bhattacharya recalled an anecdote when she almost cried in front of Shah Rukh Khan and the star offered her his assistance.
Talking to the YouTube channel Inconversation with Ishan, Roshmila recalled an incident when she was interviewing SRK in the 90s and the chat went on till so late that she had no way of returning home. She shared, “I used to live in Vashi and in those days and there was no [local] train to Vashi. There were only buses and the last bus would leave at 11:30 pm. I was in Film City and I was looking at the watch. There were no mobile phones or anything in those days and my husband was waiting at home.”
She recalled that Shah Rukh was shooting in Film City and he would continue the interview in between the takes. “He came back and he said let’s continue the interview. I was 24-25 years old then and I was near to tears. He asked, ‘What happened?’ So I told him that my last bus is gone and I don’t know where I am going to spend the night. In those days, you wouldn’t even get a taxi to Vashi,” she shared.
When Shah Rukh asked why she hadn’t told about her situation, Roshmila said that since he was shooting, she did not want to disturb him. SRK immediately offered his assistance and said, “Don’t worry, I will send my car.’ I asked him, ‘To Vashi? It will take a long time.’ He said, ‘Yes, I am shooting here so the car will go and drop you. Just tell my driver to call me after he reaches Vashi so I can tell him if he should come here or go home.’”
Roshmila then laughed and recalled what she asked SRK next. She shared, “Like a stupid fool, I said but how will you go back? He said, ‘Don’t worry, somebody will take me.’ The car went all the way to Vashi and dropped me.”
Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in The King with Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, which is being directed by Sujoy Ghosh.
