Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a screen with Abhishek Bachchan in the 2000 romantic drama Refugee which was directed by JP Dutta. The film marked the debut of both Kareena and Abhishek. Well, Refugee became a commercial success and the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year. But, do you know Kareena was quite skeptical about filming romantic scenes with Abhishek during that time? Yes, you read that right!
Kareena Kapoor on her discomfort while performing a romantic scene with Abhishek
In an old chat with Simi Grewal on her talk show, Kareena was shown a video message from Abhishek, wherein he expressed his admiration for her. He also playfully criticized her and said that he would never forgive Bebo for ruining him in a scene. He remembered how Kareena told him that this was going to be their first romantic scene in a film together and how she fell in love with him as he was like a brother to her.
Well, Abhishek referred to the sequence which was shot at a Dargah in Refugee film. In the film, Kareena’s character was seen pleading with Abhishek’s character to stay. Well, Kareena told director Dutta about her discomfort with the romantic scenes and said that how can she perform those scenes as she considers him her brother.
Kareena and Abhishek’s on-screen chemistry left everyone falling in love with them. But, in reality, the two remained friends until Kareena’s sister, Karisma Kapoor, and Abhishek ended their long-term relationship. In a candid conversation with former journalist Rajeev Masand, Kareena said that Abhishek was the first actor with whom she had her first shot. She even said that Abhishek holds a special place in her heart and also revealed how proud she is of him. She acknowledged that if Abhishek is not interested in collaborating on future projects and said that she respects his decision as others should do it. The two also shared the screen together in the 2003 film Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon.
