Netizens have expressed disappointment with a decision of Deepika Padukone recently.

Padukone had auctioned the dresses she wore at the condolence meet of deceased actress Jiah Khan and the father of Priyanka Chopra.

Padukone helms the work of TLLLF (The Live Love Laugh Foundation), TLLF is a non-profit organization that helps promote the addressing of mental health issues in the nation, where the matter is often considered taboo.

The actress, who has made public her struggles with depression herself, has been leading the foundation’s operations since its inception in 2015. She is the founder. One method of raising money for this charity is to sell clothes from her closet, both couture and non-couture.

The two outfits in question are a ‘white kurta with white-legged pants’ and a ‘Designer pin tuck Lakhnavi Kurti’ worth ₹2,700 and ₹8,000 respectively on the website, The Deepika Padukone closet.

The fact that Deepika Padukone chose to sell clothes that she wore at funerals event drew her criticism on social media.

The incident blew up when Twitter user Maya began to tweet about it.

“I am so shocked…my favourite Deepika Padukone has auctioned her non-couture clothes from 2013… I repeat 2013 that she wore to different funeral events. Low blow!” she wrote on August 16.

Maya asked, “Who the hell buys old, second-hand Zara or Jhuttis for god’s sakes!!!! Rather why would you sell it and not donate this to the needy… classless! Sheesh…Don’t justify this by telling me she is doing it for charity.. you cannot be reselling Zara’s .. Jhoothis…10 to 15-year-old ordinary brand clothes… Why can’t you just give it to the needy or your househelp?”

Other Twitter users were quick to share similar views.

On the work front, Padukone is set to share the screen with Husband Ranveer Singh in the upcoming sports drama ‘83’. In the movie, Ranveer will essay the role of legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, while Deepika will play his wife Romi Bhatia. The film’s release has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

She will also be seen in Shakun Batra’s upcoming yet-untitled film that also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday, an untitled film with Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan starrer action-adventure, Fighter, directed by Siddharth Anand.
