Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore has been a part of the movies for over six decades now. Many members of her family are in the movies, including her son Saif Ali Khan, granddaughter Sara Ali Khan and even her daughter-in-law Kareena Kapoor. In a recent interview, Sharmila spoke about Kareena’s latest film Crew and said that while the film was “absurd beyond belief,” the film’s success at the box office was worth taking note as it will encourage producers to back films fronted by female actors. The film also starred Tabu and Kriti Sanon.

Talking to Kapil Sibal on his YouTube channel Dil Se Kapil Sibal, Sharmila called Crew an “entertaining” film and said, “It is absurd, of course, beyond belief but there are three women pulling off this adventure. One is landing a plane, one is breaking a safe, doing all kinds of things together and the camaraderie between the three is excellent because they say a woman is a woman’s worst enemy, not so here.”

She also pointed out that, apart from being entertaining, Crew was a commercial success, which will further pave the way for better films and roles for female actors. “Crew has done very well. Three women are doing all kinds of fantastic things and it has done well at the box office. This will encourage a lot of filmmakers to do women-centric films,” she added.

Crew earned almost Rs 90 crore at the domestic box office, as per Bollywood Hungama, and is the third highest Bollywood grosser of the year after Fighter and Shaitaan. Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan, earned Rs 200 crore in India, and Shaitaan, starring Ajay Devgn, earned Rs 150 crore in the domestic market.
