Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan’s ugly divorce is not a secret. The two tied the knot in October 1991 but separated in 2004. However, they continue to co-parent their children – Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. In a recent interview, Sara shared that even though her parents are now divorced, her paternal grandmother, veteran actor Sharmila Tagore shares a “very appropriate equation” with her mother.

Sara was speaking at an event in Delhi when she talked about Amrita Singh and Sharmila Tagore’s relationship. “My mom doesn’t have parents, but if anything were to happen to me or Ibrahim, I know that she wouldn’t be alone because Badi Amma will be there, and that’s everything,” she said as quoted by the Times of India.

Sara further recalled how her “Badi Amma” stood by her at a time when she needed her the most and added, “I went through a phase in life when I needed support and Badi Amma came like an army. She was there for me. In times like that, you realise the true value of relationships.”

Last year, Sharmila Tagore appeared on Koffee With Karan when she opened up about Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s ugly divorce for the first time. “When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not a harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice but I tried. But that’s water under the bridge, she needed time to cool down and they worked it out together,” she said.

“It’s not just staying away, there are so many other things that are involved. It wasn’t a happy time for us because Ibrahim was just three and we were very fond of the children. Especially, Tiger was really fond of Ibrahim and he would say, ‘That’s a good lad.’ He didn’t get that time with him. So we felt doubly deprived to lose Amrita and lose the two kids. So it’s just not him but we also had to adjust to all that,” the veteran actress added.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Sharmila Tagore was most recently seen in Gulmohar. Released in March 2023, the family drama also starred Maoj Bajpayee in the lead. On the other hand, Sara Ali Khan was last seen in Murder Mubarak and Ae Watan Mere Watan. She will soon be sharing the screen with Aditya Roy Kapur in Metro In Dino.
