Jaya Bachchan and husband Amitabh Bachchan’s fortunes have become public only a mere few hours ago. We know this because the actress-turned-politician is legally bound to declare her and her husband’s wealth while filing nomination as candidate for the Rajya Sabha. Jaya Bachchan is Samajwadi Party’s representative from Uttar Pradesh and according to her filing, the couple’s collective wealth amounts to INR1,000 crore. This is a jump of more than 100 per cent from 2012 when she had declared assets worth INR493 crore. So what did Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan do to (more than) double their wealth in a little over half a decade.

Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan have immoveable assets (ie real estate) worth INR540 crore and movable assets worth INR460 crore. Back in 2012, the couple’s immovable assets were worth INR152 crore and movable assets were worth INR343 crore. While Amitabh, along with Abhishek, made INR112 crore by jumping on the Bitcoin bandwagon at the right time, cryptocurrency forms just a fraction of the Bachchans’ collective wealth. Almost all of the couple’s investment are in the form of traditional assets, most of which is in the form of property.

According to reports, the couple also owns properties in Indian cities such as Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Gandhinagar, Noida and Pune.

Additionally, Jaya Bachchan is in possession of 1.22 hectare of agricultural land in Kakori, Lucknow worth INR2.2 crore whereas Amitabh Bachchan owns a INR5.7 crore plot spanning three acres in Daulatpur, Barabanki.

Though a Tata Nano and a tractor do feature on the list of vehicles owned by Amitabh Bachchan, Big B has an enviable garage worth more than INR13 crore. The couple owns 12 vehicles together, including three Mercedes cars, a Range Rover, a Porsche and a Rolls-Royce.

Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan’s watch collection is valued at about INR4 crore but Big B has the upper hand here. His wrist candy costs a whopping INR3.4 crore whereas hers is priced at INR51 lakh. Additionally, Mr Bachchan also owns a pen worth more than INR9 lakh.

And finally, the couple is also in possession of INR62 crore worth of gold and jewellery — of which, assets owned by Amitabh Bachchan are valued at INR36 crore.

So while you may never really be able to call your cars and pens an investment it’s safe to say that your house and your jewellery are still worth falling back on.
