Entertainment portal Bollywood Hungama reported yesterday that the 80-year-old actor won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Joy Awards for his contributions to the Indian film industry.

Bachchan announced the good news on his Instagram account, with a brief video that incorporated several clips from his films.

“My immense gratitude for your affection and care, and for the honour,” said Bachchan in the video.

“I’ve always believed that cinema is a medium of entertainment, and it brings people together and integrates human society. We come from different walks of life, but when we watch something, we laugh at the same jokes and cry at the same things. We come together on one platform.”

He added: “My father used to watch a Hindi film every evening. I asked him what he found interesting in cinema, and he replied that it was poetic justice in three hours. That’s the power of cinema and I’m proud to be part of the film industry of my country.”

Amitabh was last seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai and his next film will be Project K, which also stars Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.
