Shah Rukh Khan gets into a heated discussion with Ness Wadia over IPL player retentions: Report

At a recent meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, IPL team owners engaged in a lively debate about whether to hold a mega auction.

Prominent voices against the idea included Shah Rukh Khan of Kolkata Knight Riders and Kavya Maran of SunRisers Hyderabad, the champions and runners-up of IPL 2024.

However, the BCCI has yet to make a final decision, with plans to inform the owners by the end of August.
According to Cricbuzz, Shah Rukh Khan was vocal against the mega auctions, even getting into a heated discussion with Ness Wadia of Punjab Kings over the number of player retentions.

Shah Rukh supported substantial retentions, while Wadia favored fewer. Supporting Shah Rukh, SRH owner Maran expressed concerns about the time and investment needed to develop a strong squad. She cited examples like Abhishek Sharma, who took three years to become a consistent performer.

Maran emphasized that similar stories are common across teams. The final decision on the mega auction will influence the retention rules. If the BCCI opts against mega auctions, there might be no need for retention at all.
