Deepika Padukone, Sahid Kapoor and Salman Khan wow at ‘Bollywood Oscars’

International Indian Film Academy Awards

Known as the Bollywood Oscars, the 20th annual awards have been held in India for the first time in its history.

Since it began in 2000, the awards have been hosted in cities including London, Toronto and Singapore, and Bangkok.

In all their fancy splendour, the biggest stars of Bollywood strutted down the red carpet held in Mumbai’s Dome, NSCI, SVP Stadium, with Deepika Padukone, Sahid Kapoor and Salman Khan leading the charge.

Deepika looked absolutely amazing in an extravagant lilac gown and matching veil.

The 33-year-old, who stars in upcoming movie Chhapaak about an acid attack victim, posed on the carpet, in the beaded, strapless dress which was beyond brilliant.

Deepika’s husband Ranveer Singh was looking mighty impressive in his own extravagant getup.

With a cane and a suit that sported a bright red ribbon running through, he cut a stylish, yet formidable force on that carpet.

After everyone was inside, Ranveer kicked off the film celebration as he sang a rendition of Mere Gully Mein while standing in the crowd, before leaping onto the stage.

When it comes to the awards, Raazi took home best film, while Ranveer won best actor, and Alia Bhatt best actress. Sara Ali Khan won best debutant – female, and Ishaan Khatter took home the male counterpart.

Taking to the stage to accept his award, Ranveer said of his wife Deepika: ‘As my wife watches me with pride in the front row, it feels great to receive this award.’

Sara Ali also took to the stage, at one moment performing the hit tracks of her parents, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, including Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re and Ole Ole Ole.

Legends of the screen Deepika, Ranbir Kapoor, Rajkumar Hirani and Saroj Khan were honoured with special awards while Jagdeep won outstanding achievement in cinema.

The veteran actor was accompanied on stage by sons Jaaved Jaaferi and Naved Jafri and grandson Meezan as Ranveer and Ramesh Sippy, who directed him in Sholay, presented Jagdeep with the prestigious award.
