Citadel is the new sci-fi espionage drama starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden that will get your adrenaline pumping

Citadel is the new sci-fi spy drama that everyone is talking about, and for good enough reason.
Developed by Captain America and Avengers’ Russo brothers, the upcoming espionage Prime Video series stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden as agents Nadia Sinh and Mason Kane, who join forces to save the world. But if you think it’s just any other run-of-the-mill spy series, it isn’t. This show is also set to include spin-offs in different countries and languages. Amazon explained this decision: “All of the local series are meant to enhance the entire entertainment experience and will be available for the viewer to deep dive into an imagined layered world.” Ooo, if we weren’t intrigued already, we definitely are now!
While Citadel was shrouded in secrecy for a long time, the promotional trail for the show has kicked off in style, with a slick 007-style trailer to the tune of Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams, and we’re honestly so pumped. What is the plot of Citadel?
Citadel, which was once an independent intelligence agency owing no loyalty to no country on Earth and only dedicated to the safety of people everywhere, was destroyed by a powerful syndicate, Manticore, eight years before the series begins. At the time, two agents had their minds wiped and took on new cover identities so that Manticore couldn’t harm them any longer. Years later when one of the former agents, Mason Kane (Richard Madeley), decides to stop Manticore from taking over the world and, in doing so, reactivates another former Citadel operative Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas). While attempting to save the world, they must also figure out who they once were in their previous life.
An official synopsis via Amazon reads: “Global spy agency Citadel has fallen, and its agents’ memories were wiped clean. Now the powerful syndicate, Manticore, is rising in the void. Can the Citadel agents recollect their past and summon the strength to fight back?”
What has the cast and crew said about Citadel?
The Russo Brothers gushed about how the actors play “multiple versions of themselves” in Citadel. Joe Ruddo explained during a recent press conference: “The new personalities come in conflict with their old personalities. That was the idea that I think most excited us because I don’t know that I’ve ever seen that before, where you have multiple characters dealing with a crisis of personality and a crisis of conscience.” Of the show’s back-and-forth shots, The White Tiger star Priyanka added: “The show is completely non-linear. We had to remind each other of the story. It was like a big jigsaw to remember.”

Who else stars in Citadel?
The cast is incredible as it is, but there’s a lot more to look forward to, as Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville are also in it! Rounding out the cast are Osy Ikhile, Ashleigh Cummings, Roland Møller, and Caoilinn Springall.

What is Citadel‘s spin-off all about?
In a cool new concept, Citadel will also give way to spin-offs in different countries and languages. There will soon be an Indian adaptation of the series, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and an Italian series co-produced by Amazon Studios and Cattleya, part of ITV Studios.

When will Citadel be released?
Head to Prime Video on April 28 for the first two episodes. The rest of the six-part series will be released weekly before culminating on May 26.
